Yogurt basics:
This is a common food, a dairy product produced by bacterial fermentation of milk. Fermentation of the milk sugar (lactose) produces lactic acid, which acts on milk protein to give it its texture and its characteristic tang. It is nutritionally rich in protein, calcium, riboflavin, vitamin B6 and vitamin B12.
Yogurt has nutritional benefits beyond those of milk: people who are moderately lactose-intolerant can enjoy yogurt without ill effects, because the lactose in the milk precursor is converted to lactic acid by the bacterial culture. The reduction of lactose bypasses the affected individuals’ need to process the milk sugar themselves.

Frozen yogurt also gives you the benefit of lactobacillus bacteria which is a great aid in digestion. Frozen yogurt is also a great source of protein making it a chock full of health. Making your own homemade frozen yogurt recipe is a great alternative to buying ones from the store. By doing so you can eliminate certain preservatives and artificial additives from your cold dessert treat. For someone attempting to make his or her own recipe it is best to learn a popular one first as a guide to make your own tasty and healthy concoction. French vanilla yogurt is among the easiest and most popular homemade frozen yogurt recipes you can make. The ingredients are:
half a cup of evaporated milk
two teaspoons of gelatin (unflavored)
2/3 cup of raw sugar
a pinch of salt
2 beaten egg yolks
2 cups of plain whole milk yogurt
2 tablespoons of vanilla
2 egg whites
Get the milk warm just below boiling point; add sugar, salt and gelatin until all ingredients are dissolved. Start beating the egg yolks until they are frothy. Begin gradually adding the froth into your mixture gradually till the mix thickens. If you’re satisfied with the texture set it aside to cool down. Once cool enough add yogurt and vanilla then chill in the refrigerator for about an hour. Beat the egg whites until soft peaks are formed then proceed to gently folding them into your mixture. At this point all you need to do is chum the batch in a standard two quart ice cream freezer then you’re done: one simple yet very tasty homemade frozen yogurt recipe.

It’s official that the frozen yogurt craze has taken over America. With any craze, however, there are always going to be the skeptics. So what is it about it that makes it so appealing to today’s society? Has America replaced traditional ice cream?
A lot of people have been turning to yogurt shops for their cool desserts because of the go-green mentality that most yogurt shops are purveying. People in America are starting to realize that going green is actually benefiting the environment and look to do business with companies that respect the environment as well. A lot of yogurt companies work to go green with their shops so customers are naturally attracted to getting their fix there.
Fro-Yo, as it is sometimes referred to, cuts the calories down by a great deal also. Even if you were to get a small ice cream from Cold Stone, you would still be putting down over 400 calories just in that one dessert. A small non-fat frozen yogurt is only 100 calories. It appeals to the health-conscious buyer, and it’s great to see Americans becoming more and more health conscious.
It also appeals to the dairy-sensitive stomach. Many people who usually feel very sick eating ice cream feel completely fine after downing a frozen yogurt. Although it is still made with dairy products, a lot of the time the amount of dairy to water base ratio is much less than that of ice cream. If dairy products like ice cream make your stomach sick, try to find a venue that has a more icy based selection of fro-yo.

The sun beats down on your back. You’re hot and thirsty. It’s summer time – the perfect time for a cool, refreshing, and nutritious frozen drink.
Here are the top five frozen drinks to cool you off and offer nutritious benefits.
#1 Minty Lemonade.
Mint offers many digestive benefits and contains phytonutrients. On top of all that, it’s delicious.
Step One: Grab your blender and add ¼ cup of sugar and 10-12 washed mint leaves – blend into a paste.
Step Two: Add the juice from 1 ½ lemons. (About 6 tablespoons)
Step Three: Add 3-4 large ice cubes or about 1/3 cup crushed ice and blend.
Step Four: Add 1 ½ cups of soda or seltzer water to the blender and then pour into glasses full of ice.
Step Five: Sip and enjoy!
#2 Watermelon Cooler
Watermelon is a valuable source of Vitamin C, Potassium, and Lycopene. However with this refreshing drink, the health benefits will be the last thing on your mind.

Step One: Peel and chop 4 medium sized nectarines.
Step Two: Add nectarines and one can of light coconut milk to blender.
Step Three: Add two tablespoons of sugar and the juice from two limes (2 tbsp) to blender
Step Four: Blend until ingredients are mixed.
Step Five: Add 1/3 cup chopped ice or 3-4 large ice cubes and blend. Pour over ice and enjoy!
#4 Banana Breakfast Smoothie
Breakfast is a hectic time and with children home from school it can be even crazier. Here is a great drink you can make for them which will last them until lunch.
Step One: Add 1 cup milk, 2/3 cup orange juice, 2/3 cup pineapple juice and 1/3 cup coconut milk with one banana and three large ice cubes.
Step Two: Blend until all ingredients are smooth and creamy.
Step Three: Pour into glass and enjoy. Note: You can add one or two raw eggs to mixture however be careful when feeding small children raw eggs.
#5 Blueberry Freeze
For those long hot summer days when nothing goes down smoother than a cold cocktail this drink is for you.
Step One: Add 1 oz vodka, 1/4 oz wildberry schnapps, 1 oz cream of coconut, 2 oz blueberries, 1 1/2 oz crushed pineapples, 1 scoop vanilla ice cream and 8 oz crushed ice to blender.
Step Two: Blend until smooth.
Step Three: Pour into a glass and top with whipped cream for an extra special treat.
